The goal of the firm Gourmia is to develop tools for making nutritious meals. Because of this, they have offered a special solution to my cooking issue: a smokeless grill. Although it isn’t truly “smokeless,” grilling over an open flame does result in a significant reduction in smoke (see the video below to see how much smoke is expelled). The Gourmia GBQ330 is made to be portable for outdoor activities like camping, picnics, and tailgating, as well as inside uses such at home. The grill still uses traditional charcoal as a fuel source, but it also incorporates an electric fan for temperature control that is powered by 4 AA batteries. There is about 12 inches of cooking surface on the grill.
skilled grill master
I was raised next to a barbeque. I’m glad to add that my father is a skilled grill master and that his enthusiasm for cooking has rubbed off on me. Unfortunately, the weather where we reside doesn’t allow for year-round grilling. If we’re lucky, we might manage to find a total of six weeks during the year when it’s cosy enough to be outside cooking. What then should someone who loves to grill do? You come upon a “smokeless” barbeque,
utilising this grill
I am accustomed to putting up and utilising grills, so I was prepared to face this task. I prepared to begin cooking as soon as I opened the box. Give yourself plenty of time for set-up, is the first piece of advise I have for anyone utilising this grill. As it turned out, I had quite a bit of work to do before I could start cooking on the grill plate. I had to ignite the grill and add charcoal to it. I then had to wait for the flames to go out, exactly as on a regular charcoal grill, before the true heat began to circulate and warm the cooking plate.
cooking the hot dogs
The grill plate is therefore the actual cooking device for the meat. I put up the grill outside on our patio for my test. I barbecued some hamburgers, a steak, and hot dogs. As you can see from the images, the grill struggled a little bit with the steak and the burgers, even though it did a really good job of quickly cooking the hot dogs. The steak had been cooking for around 20 minutes when this picture was taken. As you can see, the borders are still quite pink, suggesting that the inside of the steak needed more time to cook to the target internal temperature of medium-well.
Cleaning the grill
After cleaning the grill plate with a brush and putting it in the dishwasher, I took the drip pan out of the grill to empty it of any remaining oil. There it was. I put it back into the travel case once it was thoroughly cleaned.
Having the Gourmia Portable Charcoal Grill around the kitchen is a great idea. It can handle the majority of culinary operations and is ideal for grilling while on the road. Although I would really like to be able to increase the temperature, I don’t understand how it could do so without a top to keep the heat in.
