Many bubblehead lovers are curious about how to create their custom bubblehead and why it usually takes several weeks to create it. At a higher level, creating your custom bubblehead involves four steps: addition to sculpture, shaping, polishing and painting, preparatory work, and final transport. Before moving on to the details of each step, it should be noted that the process described is for a resin-based bubblehead.
What is a bobblehead?
Custom bobbleheads are cute little bubbleheads with real-life faces. It is an ideal gift item that can be adapted to the receiver’s face and can even be adapted to the customized scene and background.
What do I need to prepare my own bubble head?
All you need are some quality photos – one side view and one front view! Include images of any clothing, uniforms, shoes, pants and logo, accessories, or background you have.
1. Sculpture (less than one day to seven working days)
This step requires skill in hand sculpture. This is usually done by skilled artists, who usually have experience with hand sculpture based on a given photograph or reference object. A very experienced artist can take 4 to 5 hours to create a 7-inch sculpture, while a less experienced artist can take more than a day or two. After completing the initial sculpture, the consumer will have the opportunity to view his picture. Replacement is relatively simple and quick at this stage. On the other hand, asking for a change at a later stage would be more expensive, because the whole statue needs to be rebuilt. The consumer should therefore look carefully at the initial statute when the bubble maker requests a comment.
2. Forming (7-10 working days)
Pressing is a process in which the initial sculpture from a previous process is used as the basis for creating the profile and curvature of the bubble body and head. First, a semi-liquid silicone gel is applied to the surface of the initial plastic. When the gel dries, a soft silicone coating is formed, which forms the shape of the bubblehead profile. The plaster is then applied to the surface of the silicone coating. After the drying process, the gypsum coating becomes a hard mold. Subsequently, the initial plastic is removed from the silicone coating. Upon completion of the preparation, the molten resin is injected into the emptied silicone coating to form a bubble.
3. Polishing (one to three working days)
I’m not ready to paint a raw bramble. The surface has grease that needs to be removed and rough surfaces that need to be sanded smooth. Neglecting the polishing process will later worsen the varnish. A decent level of craftsmanship is also required to polish a bubble bubblehead. Because its shape and curvature differ, it is still not possible to standardize and automate this process. In addition to degreasing and smoothing the surface, it may be necessary to manually fine-tune the details of the raw brmbolc head. Due to the tolerance resulting from the molding process, a deviation from the original sculpture is necessary. The sculptor often has to fine-tune the raw bubble gum after the initial polishing, and this process may need to be repeated. If it is found that the defects cannot be corrected, the whole raw bubbling must be scraped off.
4. Painting (one to three working days)
The first step is to mix the base colors to create the desired color for consumers. The quality of the mixed color is important because it has a big impact on the aesthetic side of the bubble. In addition, since each bubblehead can have a unique color, it can be very time-consuming to create the desired high-quality colors for each unique bubblehead. Secondly, due to the small painting area and the complex curvature of the surface, painting is done manually with a paintbrush. In addition, customers are often asked to create different designs for their clothes. In this case, painters have to make alternatives to different paintbrushes on these small areas, which is a difficult task.
Let’s hope that now everyone who has finished reading above has a better understanding of the basic process of making their Custom bubblehead. Thanks to a better understanding of the process, the consumer can plan another purchase of his Custom bubblehead.
