Basics of Laser Wavelength/Frequency Stabilization
Lasers having stable frequencies or wavelengths are needed in communication systems, precision measurements, ultra-high resolution spectroscopy, and in the creation of standards of frequency/wavelength in various regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.

The objective of this course is to provide an understanding of the short-term and long-term sources of laser frequency variations, the techniques for the measurement of such frequency variations, the techniques for reducing such variations, and techniques for the feedback stabilization of the laser frequency. Other topics, include: optical wavelength/frequency standards, microwave standards using lasers, precision tuning of stabilized lasers, and the generation of a harmonically-related comb of stabilized laser frequencies.
Laboratory demonstrations will be used to enhance the understanding of the material being presented.
The course is suitable for scientists and engineers who need to become familiar with all the issues relating to the stabilization of laser frequencies/ wavelengths for various types of lasers.
The length of the course can vary from one day to three days, depending on the interests, needs and background of the participants.
